Philip Schneider was an American geologist and explosives engineer who claimed to have worked for the U.S. government on deep underground military bases (DUMBs). His most well-known lecture (1995) describes an alleged battle at Dulce Base, New Mexico, in 1979, during which he lost 66 military personnel and civilians and was himself injured by a cobalt radiation weapon (he displayed missing fingers on his left hand as evidence). Schneider died on January 17, 1996, in his apartment in Willowbrook, Oregon. Police classified the death as suicide by strangulation with a catheter tube. His ex-wife Cynthia Drayer and supporters claim he was murdered — as a consequence of his disclosures. Schneider's father Oscar Schneider was allegedly a submarine captain who was involved in secret projects (Operation Crossroads, Bikini Atoll tests). Schneider's credibility is highly disputed: no independent verification of his claims, no documents, no witnesses to the Dulce battle. Nevertheless, he is a key figure in the Dulce Base tradition and the secrecy-escalation thesis.
