Kumburgaz UFO Series 2007–2009 · Turkey · Humanoid Crew on Video · TÜBİTAK-confirmed
🔗 Score 9.7/10Confirmed
📅 2007–2009 (23 separate events)
· 📍 Kumburgaz, Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, Turkey – coast of the Sea of Marmara
WITNESS: Yalçın Yalman, night watchman of the Yeni Kent residential complex, Kumburgaz. Filmed unknown objects over the Sea of Marmara on 23 separate occasions between 2007 and 2009. Camera: Canon DM-GL1-A MiniDV (3CCD, 20x optical), with Sony VCI HGD-1758 tele-converter (1.7x) on 58mm adapter = effectively 200x optical zoom. Footage recorded partly at night, partly at dawn.
CHRONOLOGY OF KEY EVENTS:
• June 2007: First sighting – disc-shaped, metallically gleaming object over the Sea of Marmara. Yalman begins filming systematically.
• May–September 2008: Most intensive sighting period. Key dates: 22 May 2008 (first crew footage), 8 June 2008 (clearest humanoid sequence), 9 June 2008 (orange plasma body with water reflection), 12 June 2008 (horizontal movement, light-shadow shift), 16 June 2008, 2 July 2008 (elongated object + light cluster 75 minutes later), September 2008.
• 13/14 May 2009: During the International UFO Congress Istanbul – mass witness event. Dr. Roger Leir (USA) and 7–8 other congress participants observe a disc-shaped object live under a full moon and witness Yalman's filming in real time. Leir gave several interviews before his death in 2014.
CAMERA TECHNICAL DETAILS: The 200x zoom enabled detailed footage from a distance of 44–91 nautical miles (81–168 km) across the Sea of Marmara. The opposite shore is not visible to the naked eye – which rules out confusion with land structures. Footage recorded on original MiniDV cassettes, not digitally edited.
CREW SEQUENCE (8 June 2008 + 13 May 2009): In the centre of the object, a kind of window or hatch is visible. Within it, two figures of humanoid appearance can be seen: large, dark head, discernible torso, movements (raising/lowering head). Image analyst Mario Valdés (Chile): "The figure is not static – it moves continuously, raises its head and looks directly into the camera, then lowers it again. The synchronicity of the movement with the camera movement rules out an artefact."
SCIENTIFIC ANALYSES (7 independent institutions):
1. TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, state body): Analysed original cassettes live on television. Official finding: "The objects have a structure made of a specific material and are definitively not CGI animation, not a model, not a scale replica, not a studio effect. The objects have a physical structure and consist of materials that fall into no known category (aircraft, helicopters, meteors, Venus, Mars, satellites, lanterns, etc.) – they fall into the category of UFO/unknown origin."
2. TUG National Observatory of Turkey (state body): Same conclusion as TÜBİTAK.
3. SIRIUS UFO Space Science Research Center (Haktan Akdoğan, Istanbul): Pixel analysis, frame-by-frame, luminance testing. Finding: "100% authentic, no deception."
4. Mario Valdés, image analyst (Santiago, Chile): Detailed photogrammetric analysis, motion vector analysis of the humanoid sequence. Finding: Figure is real and in motion.
5. Prof. José Atenas, graphics/video expert, 30 years of TV experience (Chile): "Images are authentic."
6. Japanese analysis teams (independent): Same conclusion.
7. Russian and Brazilian analysts: No deception detectable.
DEBUNKING ATTEMPTS: Mick West (Metabunk, 2018) suggested the objects could be reflections from yacht windows. Counter-argument: The objects are 44–91 nautical miles away, the opposite shore is not visible to the naked eye, and the movement patterns do not correspond to boat reflections. UAP Files Podcast (2024): "Mick's debunk is flawed and has been debunked by several analysts."
WITNESSES (in addition to Yalman): Local residents of the Yeni Kent complex, fishermen, curious onlookers, Dr. Roger Leir (physician, implant researcher, USA), 7–8 international UFO congress participants (May 2009), singer Reyhan Karaca (Eurovision 1991) and TV presenter Hülya Avşar reported their own sightings during the same period.
SIGNIFICANCE: Nick Pope (former head of the UFO Desk, British Department of Defense): "Very interesting – without proper analysis there is a risk of misinterpretation." Haktan Akdoğan: "This is a turning point for Turkish UFO research. The authorities can no longer ignore this phenomenon." Eurasianet (Nicholas Birch, 22 June 2009): Reported on growing public interest in Turkey. More than 1,000 Turks paid 35 lira for the 2009 UFO Congress.

STATUS: Unresolved to this day. No debunker has been able to demonstrate fabrication. Regarded as one of the best-documented UAP cases worldwide with evidence of a humanoid crew.
