UK MOD UFO Desk 1991-94 — 12,000 Cases · 5% Unexplained · Nick Pope † 6 April 2026

UK Ministry of Defence UFO program ran from 1953-2009 — 56 years. During this time: over 12,000 UFO sightings logged and investigated. Nick Pope headed the Desk 1991-1994: Secretariat (Air Staff) Sec(AS)2a. Methodology: interviewing witnesses, checking radar data, analysing photos. RESULT after 12,000 cases: Approx. 5% remained completely unexplained after thorough investigation. Pope started as a sceptic — became a believer after 3 years. Particularly strong cases: military pilots + simultaneous radar confirmation. Several near-collisions between UAPs and civilian aircraft in MOD files. MOD internal classification of the Calvine photo: restricted until 2076. 2009: MOD closed the UFO Desk — stated reason: too costly, no demonstrable defence value. Pope: The real cases were never made public. Nick Pope died on 6 April 2026 — 34 days before the Pentagon PURSUE release.
