Operation Prato / Chupa-Chupa — Colares, Brazil 1977

📅 1977-10-01 · 📍 Colares, Pará, Brazil
One of the most documented and disturbing UAP incidents in history: On the island of Colares in the state of Pará, Brazil, starting in April 1977, hundreds of people were attacked by luminous objects firing beams of light. Local residents called the objects 'Chupa-Chupa' (Sucker-Sucker), as many victims showed puncture marks, burns, anemia-like symptoms and blood loss. At least 2 deaths were documented by treating physician Dr. Wellaide Carvalho. Approximately 400 people were injured. The Brazilian Air Force launched the secret 'Operação Prato' (Oct. 1977 – Jan. 1978) under Captain Uyrangê Hollanda: 7 soldiers, hundreds of photos, hours of film footage. Hollanda personally witnessed UAPs and was reportedly shaken by the experience. In 1997 he gave his first public interview — 3 months later he was found dead in his home (official ruling: suicide with the belt of his bathrobe). BAASS/Bigelow Aerospace visited Brazil in 2009 (Sobral, Ceará) and collected UAP fragments and data as part of the DIA's AAWSAP program — the collected data fed into the 260,000-case database now used by other government entities.
