Merivälja Object M, Estonia — Buried-UFO Claim and Later Material Analysis (1969–2026)

📅 1969–2026 · 📍 Hõbekuuse tee 34, Merivälja, Tallinn, Estonia · 🏷️ Historical discovery report / material analysis / contested narrative
Merivälja Object M is an Estonian discovery-and-excavation story preserved since the late 1960s. At Hõbekuuse tee 34 in Tallinn's Merivälja district, Virgo Mitt reportedly hit a hard, metallic-looking layer at roughly 6.5 to 8 metres while digging a well and collected fragments. In the 1980s, this developed into an extensive Soviet-investigation and KGB narrative, excavations, and claims of a large buried object. NewsNation revived the story in August 2026 in a Reality Check episode with filmmaker and author Mart Sander.

**What is supported:** The local discovery legend, retained samples, later excavation activity, current media coverage, and a 2017 published analysis of one examined fragment. TTÜ geologists reported approximately 68% chromium, 23% iron, and 7% nickel for that sample — a composition consistent with ferrochrome, an industrial raw material for stainless steel. They assessed the piece as probably human-made and stressed that there was no proof that the analysed sample originally came from the ground beneath the house. They identified pyrite concretions in local sandstone as an explanation for the hard layer.

**What is not supported:** A 15-metre, 200-ton oval main object, non-terrestrial manufacture, an NHI/UFO origin, two bodies inside it, an invisible cause of injury, or a complete independently accessible KGB evidentiary file. NewsNation explicitly notes that the alleged main body has never been photographed, reached, or retrieved. Sander's interpretation as a surveillance device is his personal speculation. This entry therefore records a real local historical mystery and its later scientific counter-assessment — not proof of a buried UFO.
